Our Grading System
Proficiency
All the grades that are entered in the gradebook are on a proficiency scale. Those grades will be a 3+, 3, 2, or 1. These easily break down into a system where you and your child can see exactly how they are doing on a skill.
A 3+ means that your student performed above grade level on the task.
A 3 means that your student performed at 75% or better consistently on the task. This means they have masted the skill and are ready to move on.
A 2 means that your student is on their way to mastering the skill, but they haven't quite grasped the full concept, or show mastery only 50%-74% of the time.
A 1 means that your student needs to work on this skill. This may be completely new to them, or has been more challenging for them.
If your student got a 2 or a 1 on an assessment, that is okay. We aren't expected to be perfect all the time, but we do expect that they try and work toward improving their skills. Students are retaught the lesson(s) and also given the opportunity to retest on that skill to show they have improved and can show mastery. Retaking tests may be done in class (at the teacher's discretion) or at Penny Lane.
